ZVRS/ Purple Communications’ CEO Sherri Turpin has authored an opinion piece, which publicly calls out for true functional equivalence in our nation’s phone system.

We’re very pleased to share with you that Sherri’s piece, It’s Time to Invest in Infrastructure for Deaf Americans, has been published by SEE Change Magazine (and is accessible via an ASL video interpretation by Z/P).

At the heart of Sherri’s piece is her call for true functional equivalence, something the ADA promised almost 31 years ago but that is far from reality today for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals in the United States. “It won’t take an act of Congress to change this,” she notes, “instead, it only requires the Federal Communications Commission to step up and choose to invest in the deaf community.”

Closing the communication gap for the deaf and hard of hearing community remains one of Sherri’s top leadership priorities and Sherri, along with many other leading advocates, continues her work on the frontlines to ensure full communications access for all.
